REV RUSSELL MATTHEWS

Chaplain | Registrar | College Manager

Russell comes to us with a wealth of experience to fulfil a number of key roles. As the Malyon College Chaplain Russell is keen to support students with issues which may be affecting their ability to study effectively. As a trained and experienced social worker Russell is well placed to help students find solutions to make the most of their time at Malyon. In addition, Russell is our College Registrar so he can help students make decisions about which course is right for them and which units they need to complete. Finally, Russell also oversees the general management of the College as our College Manager. After a career as a social worker Russell was appointed State Director of an Administrative Review Tribunal in Sydney. During this time he started studying for his MDiv, thereafter pastoring at Rosalie Baptist Church, Windsor Road Baptist and Toowong Baptist in Brisbane. We welcome Russell to the Malyon team!

Jonathan is a current Malyon student (BMin) with a background in administration who feels called from the corporate sector to serve at Malyon.

Originally from South Africa, Jill has called Australia home since 1987. Jill has been Malyon’s Librarian since 2007, working to keep Malyon’s library well-resourced and organized. She definitely has a particular gift in assisting students to locate the very resource they are searching for!

Academic Tutor (On Campus)

Research Interests: David is currently working towards a Master of Arts (Theology). His research interests are in New Testament, particularly Luke-Acts. 

Having previously worked as a high school English teacher in Brisbane, David served as a pastor in a Baptist church in rural NSW. He joined the Malyon team in 2016 as the Academic Tutor. In this role he assists students in all areas of academic skills so that they can engage in their theological study at greater depth. David is married to Erin and they have four great kids. He is currently completing a Master of Arts (Theology) and is a member of Rosalie Baptist Church.

Don has taught at both colleges and universities and has lectured at Malyon (formerly Queensland Baptists College of Ministries) occasionally since 1987. In 2000 he became a full time lecturer in Theology and New Testament in Tasmania. He completed his MA and PhD at the University of Queensland. Don sees himself first and foremost as a pastor and is delighted to have been appointed to the task of assisting Malyon’s on-line students as it utilizes both his pastoral and academic backgrounds.

Susan has primary responsibility for financial matters. Susan transferred to Malyon College from Queensland Baptist where she was PA to the then Director of Admin Service and has served at Malyon College since 1999.

Murray began his working life as a maths/science teacher before joining Scripture Union in 1982. After looking after beach missions and primary ISCF groups and camping programs, Murray moved to Toowoomba to establish a regional Scripture Union ministry in the Darling Downs and South-West Qld. In 1989 he returned to teaching serving as both teacher and Principal. In 2010 Murray moved into the role of Director of Corporate Services at the Toowoomba City Council. Murray now serves as the Director of Malyon Workplace, training and supporting Christians to be influential on their ‘workplace frontlines’.
